About Jessica MacGill, Bankruptcy Attorney in Tacoma, WA

Personal Attention—Professional Results

I have been working with debtors since 2003. After relocating from Minnesota to Washington, I joined Washington Law Group PLLC in 2019.  With thousands of cases under my belt and many satisfied clients, I decided to open my own firm.  I will work with clients one on one, giving each case the attention it deserves.

Considering bankruptcy in Seattle or Tacoma? Here's what to know.

If you are drowning in debt, and feel like you are running out of options, now is the time to take charge of the situation and give me a call.  I can help you find the solution best fits your needs.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy is where, over a short-term administrative process, you may be cleared of most of your debt. Chapter 7 is only available to those who qualify and does not remove all debt. Click here for more information on Chapter 7.
Chapter 13, also referred to as the wage earner’s plan, is a court supervised debt management plan. Plans range from paying all creditors in full to paying a minimal amount or nothing to unsecured creditors. If you make too much money, you may be required to file a Chapter 13, but it is still often a much better solution than handling your debt on your own. Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is also an option for clients who are trying to save their home from foreclosure, a car from repossession, or save assets they would lose in a chapter. Most people who seek my assistance with bankruptcy are very concerned about how bankruptcy will affect their credit. The truth is that credit reporting agencies’ formulas for credit scores are proprietary, so any information that you review online is just an educated guess—there are many factors. For more information, click here.
Whether you file as an individual or as a business will depend on various factors. Some questions that I will ask you are whether you have personally guaranteed, including vendor contracts, commercial leases, SBA loans, and business loans. I will also ask you how much of your debt is secured and unsecured, what are your assets and liabilities. Do you owe any taxes, such as B & O tax, income tax, L&I and payroll tax. Click here for more information on filing a bankruptcy for business owners.
Often people in debt are also experiencing relationship difficulties and are in the process of separation or divorce. Depending on where you are at in the process, your income, your assets and other assorted issues, the timing or approach to the bankruptcy may be affected. Click here for more information.
If you are trying to avoid bankruptcy, I general advise people to sit down with their debt and see whether they could practically pay back their debt within 5 years. If you are considering a debt consolidation solution, I advise against any for profit debt negotiation plans. Click here for more information on non-bankruptcy options.
I help people with garnishments and judgments by filing bankruptcy. I do not represent individuals in state court collection matters. If you have less than $8000.00 in debt, I recommend you visit Washington Law Help, which is a website operated by NW Justice Project of Washington. Click here to be directed to WashingtonLawHelp.org.
